The Cen\u00adtral Agen\u00adcy Pack\u00ada\u00adging Regis\u00adter (ZSVR), in agree\u00adment with the Fede\u00adral Envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtal Agen\u00adcy (UBA), has published the new <\/span>mini\u00admum stan\u00addard for recy\u00adclable pack\u00ada\u00adging<\/span><\/b> for 2026. This is an important step in pre\u00adpa\u00adring for the forth\u00adco\u00adming <\/span>EU Pack\u00ada\u00adging Regu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon (PPWR)<\/span><\/b>.<\/p>

What is the mini\u00admum stan\u00addard?<\/span><\/b><\/h2>

The mini\u00admum stan\u00addard sets out the requi\u00adre\u00adments for the recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty of pack\u00ada\u00adging in accordance with Sec\u00adtion 21 of the Ger\u00adman Pack\u00ada\u00adging Act, pro\u00advi\u00adding the basis for asses\u00adsing the recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty of pack\u00ada\u00adging. The mini\u00admum stan\u00addard aims to ensu\u00adre the hig\u00adhest pos\u00adsi\u00adble qua\u00adli\u00adty of recy\u00adcling for used pack\u00ada\u00adging by enab\u00adling indus\u00adtry and retail\u00aders to deter\u00admi\u00adne the recy\u00adclable con\u00adtent of their pack\u00ada\u00adging more cle\u00adar\u00adly and accu\u00adra\u00adte\u00adly.<\/span><\/p>

The three most important updates in the 2025 mini\u00admum stan\u00addard<\/span><\/b><\/h3>
  1. Sys\u00adte\u00adma\u00adtic cate\u00adgo\u00adri\u00adsa\u00adti\u00adon of pack\u00ada\u00adging<\/span><\/b>
    The new mini\u00admum stan\u00addard is struc\u00adtu\u00adred in com\u00adpli\u00adance with the PPWR<\/span><\/b>: All rele\u00advant infor\u00adma\u00adti\u00adon is lis\u00adted accor\u00adding to the main mate\u00adri\u00adals (Annex 2), signi\u00adfi\u00adcant\u00adly faci\u00adli\u00adta\u00adting its appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon for com\u00adpa\u00adnies. <\/span>

  2. Trans\u00adpa\u00adrent test\u00ading steps and cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon for\u00admu\u00adla <\/b>
    The revi\u00adsed mini\u00admum stan\u00addard pro\u00advi\u00addes a clear over\u00adview of the indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal test\u00ading steps as well as a com\u00adpre\u00adhen\u00adsi\u00adble for\u00admu\u00adla for deter\u00admi\u00adning recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty on the basis of defi\u00adned design fea\u00adtures. <\/span>

  3. Prac\u00adti\u00adcal imple\u00admen\u00adta\u00adti\u00adon shaped by a broad body of experts <\/b>
    At the request of the indus\u00adtry, the body of experts has been expan\u00added to include repre\u00adsen\u00adta\u00adti\u00adves from medi\u00adum-sized com\u00adpa\u00adnies to ensu\u00adre a broa\u00adder ran\u00adge of per\u00adspec\u00adti\u00adves in the deve\u00adlo\u00adp\u00adment pro\u00adcess. <\/span>

    PPWR goal: 70% recy\u00adclable pack\u00ada\u00adging by 2030<\/span><\/b><\/p>

    The PPWR requi\u00adres that, from 2030, only pack\u00ada\u00adging con\u00adtai\u00adning at least <\/span>70% recy\u00adclable mate\u00adri\u00adal <\/span><\/b>can be sold on the Euro\u00adpean mar\u00adket. The 2025 mini\u00admum stan\u00addard gives com\u00adpa\u00adnies an <\/span>ear\u00adly gui\u00adde <\/span><\/b>gui\u00adde to help them get their pack\u00ada\u00adging rea\u00addy for the new requi\u00adre\u00adments in good time.     Why act now?<\/span><\/b><\/h2>

    The method for deter\u00admi\u00adning recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty remains the same as last year. It eva\u00adlua\u00adtes the pro\u00adpor\u00adti\u00adon of pack\u00ada\u00adging that can be recy\u00adcled into high-qua\u00adli\u00adty mate\u00adri\u00adals after use. Com\u00adpa\u00adnies should act now and review their pack\u00ada\u00adging to ensu\u00adre it meets the new requi\u00adre\u00adments \u2013 or make any neces\u00adsa\u00adry adjus\u00adt\u00adments. <\/span><\/p>
