The under\u00adly\u00ading metho\u00addo\u00adlo\u00adgy remains unch\u00adan\u00adged, but various assess\u00adment cri\u00adte\u00adria have been cla\u00adri\u00adfied and the mate\u00adri\u00adal-spe\u00adci\u00adfic appen\u00addi\u00adces have been revi\u00adsed. For com\u00adpa\u00adnies, the new mini\u00admum stan\u00addard pro\u00advi\u00addes important gui\u00addance in view of the future requi\u00adre\u00adments of the PPWR. <\/strong><\/p><h3>Recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty is sta\u00adted as a spe\u00adci\u00adfic per\u00adcen\u00adta\u00adge <\/h3><p>The mini\u00admum stan\u00addard deter\u00admi\u00adnes what pro\u00adpor\u00adti\u00adon by weight of pack\u00ada\u00adging is available as valuable mate\u00adri\u00adal for recy\u00adcling, taking actu\u00adal sort\u00ading and reco\u00advery prac\u00adti\u00adces into account. The result is sta\u00adted as a per\u00adcen\u00adta\u00adge. This means that the assess\u00adment does not con\u00adsider only whe\u00adther pack\u00ada\u00adging could theo\u00adre\u00adti\u00adcal\u00adly be reco\u00adver\u00aded, but what pro\u00adpor\u00adti\u00adon of the mate\u00adri\u00adal is actual\u00adly available for recy\u00adcling in prac\u00adti\u00adce. <\/p><p>For the cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon, the available recy\u00adclable con\u00adtent is redu\u00adced by design-rela\u00adted los\u00adses of valuable mate\u00adri\u00adal. The resul\u00adting figu\u00adre is then expres\u00adsed in rela\u00adti\u00adon to the total weight of the respec\u00adti\u00adve object of deter\u00admi\u00adna\u00adti\u00adon. <\/p><p>If pack\u00ada\u00adging con\u00adsists of seve\u00adral com\u00adpon\u00adents, it must first be deter\u00admi\u00adned what con\u00adsti\u00adtu\u00adtes the object of deter\u00admi\u00adna\u00adti\u00adon. Ins\u00adtead, the mini\u00admum stan\u00addard now distin\u00adgu\u00adis\u00adhes bet\u00adween three cate\u00adgo\u00adries: <\/p><ul><li>Paper and card\u00adboard pack\u00ada\u00adging, exclu\u00adding com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adte pack\u00ada\u00adging <\/li><li>Liquid pack\u00ada\u00adging board <\/li><li>Com\u00adpo\u00adsi\u00adte pack\u00ada\u00adging pre\u00addo\u00admi\u00adnant\u00adly made of paper and card\u00adboard, exclu\u00adding liquid pack\u00ada\u00adging board <\/li><\/ul><p><br>Under this clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon sys\u00adtem, the dif\u00adfe\u00adrent pack\u00ada\u00adging cate\u00adgo\u00adries are pre\u00adsen\u00adted sepa\u00adra\u00adte\u00adly in the mate\u00adri\u00adal-spe\u00adci\u00adfic appen\u00addi\u00adces. The indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal fib\u00adre com\u00adpon\u00adents are now also shown direct\u00adly in the rele\u00advant tables of the mini\u00admum stan\u00addard. The mini\u00admum stan\u00addard the\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre adopts the cor\u00adre\u00adspon\u00adding ter\u00admi\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy of the Euro\u00adpean Pack\u00ada\u00adging and Pack\u00ada\u00adging Was\u00adte Regu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon. <\/p><p>The pre\u00adcise assign\u00adment of pack\u00ada\u00adging to a cate\u00adgo\u00adry remains decisi\u00adve for the sub\u00adse\u00adquent assess\u00adment. Com\u00adpa\u00adnies should the\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre check whe\u00adther the new ter\u00admi\u00adno\u00adlo\u00adgy chan\u00adges the clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon of their pack\u00ada\u00adging. <\/p><h3>Cla\u00adri\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons for coa\u00adted and colou\u00adred glass <\/h3><p>The assess\u00adment of cer\u00adtain glass pack\u00ada\u00adging has also been cla\u00adri\u00adfied. For coa\u00adted or colou\u00adred glass, trans\u00adlucen\u00adcy is no lon\u00adger asses\u00adsed sole\u00adly on the basis of a degree of trans\u00admis\u00adsi\u00adon. New pack\u00ada\u00adging attri\u00adbu\u00adtes have been added, while exis\u00adting attri\u00adbu\u00adtes have been dif\u00adfe\u00adren\u00adtia\u00adted in grea\u00adter detail or com\u00adbi\u00adned whe\u00adre dif\u00adfe\u00adrent vari\u00adants lead to the same assess\u00adment result. <\/p><p>Com\u00adpa\u00adnies should the\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre not rely sole\u00adly on an ear\u00adlier assess\u00adment of their pack\u00ada\u00adging. They should check whe\u00adther the rele\u00advant mate\u00adri\u00adals, com\u00adpon\u00adents and design para\u00adme\u00adters are descri\u00adbed dif\u00adfer\u00adent\u00adly or more pre\u00adcis\u00ade\u00adly in the 2026 edi\u00adti\u00adon. <\/p><h3>Chan\u00adged clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon of cer\u00adtain coa\u00adtings and adhe\u00adsi\u00adves <\/h3><p>The\u00adre are also chan\u00adges rela\u00adting to cer\u00adtain poly\u00admer disper\u00adsi\u00adon coa\u00adtings and hot-melt adhe\u00adsi\u00adve appli\u00adca\u00adti\u00adons. The\u00adse are no lon\u00adger auto\u00adma\u00adti\u00adcal\u00adly clas\u00adsi\u00adfied as recy\u00adcling incom\u00adpa\u00adti\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adties. Ins\u00adtead, man\u00adda\u00adto\u00adry test\u00ading is requi\u00adred. <\/p><p>Important\u00adly, the chan\u00adged clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon does not auto\u00adma\u00adti\u00adcal\u00adly result in a more favoura\u00adble assess\u00adment. Wit\u00adhout a suc\u00adcessful test, the item can\u00adnot be taken into account posi\u00adtively when deter\u00admi\u00adning recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty. <\/p><h3>The zero-per\u00adcent rule remains rele\u00advant <\/h3><p>A cen\u00adtral prin\u00adci\u00adple of the mini\u00admum stan\u00addard remains unch\u00adan\u00adged: if a design para\u00adme\u00adter is clas\u00adsi\u00adfied as an incom\u00adpa\u00adti\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty, the recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty of the respec\u00adti\u00adve object of deter\u00admi\u00adna\u00adti\u00adon is 0 per\u00adcent. This appli\u00ades regard\u00adless of how small the pro\u00adpor\u00adti\u00adon by weight of the incom\u00adpa\u00adti\u00adble com\u00adpo\u00adnent is. <\/p><p>An exam\u00adp\u00adle pro\u00advi\u00added by the ZSVR illus\u00adtra\u00adtes how signi\u00adfi\u00adcant\u00adly indi\u00advi\u00addu\u00adal design ele\u00adments can affect the result. In a PET trig\u00adger spray bot\u00adt\u00adle that was exami\u00adned, a label adhe\u00adsi\u00adve that was not washa\u00adble results in recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty of 0 per\u00adcent. After swit\u00adching to a sui\u00adta\u00adble washa\u00adble adhe\u00adsi\u00adve, the opti\u00admi\u00adsed exam\u00adp\u00adle achie\u00adves 94.3 per\u00adcent. The results rela\u00adte exclu\u00adsi\u00adve\u00adly to the pack\u00ada\u00adging exam\u00adp\u00adle shown and can\u00adnot be appli\u00aded gene\u00adral\u00adly to other pack\u00ada\u00adging. <\/p><p>The exam\u00adp\u00adle demons\u00adtra\u00adtes that even com\u00adpon\u00adents with a com\u00adpa\u00adra\u00adtively low pro\u00adpor\u00adti\u00adon by weight can be decisi\u00adve for the assess\u00adment of the enti\u00adre object of deter\u00admi\u00adna\u00adti\u00adon. <\/p><h2>What does the mini\u00admum stan\u00addard mean for the PPWR? <\/h2><p>Under the PPWR, recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty beco\u00admes a con\u00addi\u00adti\u00adon for pla\u00adcing pack\u00ada\u00adging on the mar\u00adket. Accor\u00adding to the ZSVR\u2019s expl\u00adana\u00adti\u00adons, from 2030 com\u00adpa\u00adnies may place on the mar\u00adket only pack\u00ada\u00adging that is at least 70 per\u00adcent recy\u00adclable. <\/p><p>The mini\u00admum stan\u00addard also sta\u00adtes recy\u00adcla\u00adbi\u00adli\u00adty as a per\u00adcen\u00adta\u00adge. Com\u00adpa\u00adnies can the\u00adr\u00ade\u00adfo\u00adre alre\u00ada\u00addy assess whe\u00adre their pack\u00ada\u00adging stands in rela\u00adti\u00adon to the Euro\u00adpean 70-per\u00adcent thres\u00adhold. <\/p><p>Howe\u00adver, this clas\u00adsi\u00adfi\u00adca\u00adti\u00adon does not yet con\u00adsti\u00adtu\u00adte final pro\u00adof of future PPWR com\u00adpli\u00adance. The bin\u00adding Euro\u00adpean cal\u00adcu\u00adla\u00adti\u00adon and assess\u00adment metho\u00addo\u00adlo\u00adgy will be laid down only in the dele\u00adga\u00adted act under Artic\u00adle 6 PPWR, which is still pen\u00adding. <\/p>    <p>Accor\u00adding to the ZSVR\u2019s assess\u00adment, pack\u00ada\u00adging that per\u00adforms well under the mini\u00admum stan\u00addard is likely to be well posi\u00adtio\u00adned with regard to the expec\u00adted Euro\u00adpean requi\u00adre\u00adments. Howe\u00adver, a final assess\u00adment will be pos\u00adsi\u00adble only once the Euro\u00adpean requi\u00adre\u00adments have been ful\u00adly spe\u00adci\u00adfied. <\/p><h2>What should com\u00adpa\u00adnies review now? <\/h2><p>The 2026 mini\u00admum stan\u00addard is inten\u00added to be used to assess pack\u00ada\u00adging pla\u00adced on the mar\u00adket in 2027.
